Our one-acre vineyard, on a south-east facing slope in South Kilworth, South Leicestershire, was started in 1973. The main planting is of Mueller-Thurgau vines, and we have recently added 2 rows of Madeleine Angevine. Mueller is much grown in the Rhine and Mosel vineyards and produces a wine of good flavour. Unfortunately it is rather disease prone whereas Madeleine Angevine is a more reliable cropper and it too can produce wines of very good flavour. It remains to be seen how it turns out on our soil. We have every confidence in it because the M-T is very pleasing. Our vines are grown organically in compost-fed soil by methods approved by the Soil Association. No chemical fertilizers, complex chemical herbicides, systemic pesticides or fungicides are used and so the system is environmentally friendly. Vinification of the grapes is done by another organic winegrower, again to Soil Association standards. Our grapes are processed separately from any others and the wine is returned to us in the bottles.

Our winemaker makes the wine as 'Dry' or 'Medium Dry' as requested, thus the majority has been made dry but the 2000 vintage was made medium dry so that we have the two styles available.

In our best year we produced 1296 bottles from 1.75 tonnes of grapes!

We were very pleased to be awarded "Commended" for the 1997 Vintage at the Mercian Vineyards Association Annual Wine competition in September 1999. Our 1994 vintage has also been awarded "Commended" on two occasions.
