Our boxes contain a wide range of vegetables, some of which
we grow ourselves on our 2.5 acre site using ten polytunnels - tunnels
of polythene stretched over a support frame.
Supplying 250 boxes a week requires about 20 tons of potatoes, 10 tons of carrots, 5 tons of onions, 1 ton of swedes, etc. per year.We therefore concentrate on crops which we can grow but which the large growers do not want to be bothered with - from aubergines to shallots. Those which we do not grow ourselves are sourced from as near as possible. Unfortunately as there are not many organic growers in the area, most of the other items are obtained from the Organic Marketing Company who have a huge range available. Sadly, with the present surge in demand, they have to import a considerable proportion of their produce, simply because nowhere near enough is being produced in this country. It is said that more than 70% of organic food is imported and demand is increasing at some 40% per year - a huge figure. How to place an order | Where the produce comes from | Recipe |
